Video Transcript

"Hello! I'm Dr. Miguel Rodriguez. I'm a gastroenterologist at Miami Gastroenterology Consultants in Miami, Florida. If you're having acid reflux disease essentially you should consult your regular physician, discuss the symptoms and you're very likely to provided with the medication for a duration of 6, 8, sometimes even 12 weeks. It is important that you take the medication that is prescribed to you even if you feel okay. Because the purpose of the medication is by decreasing acid and will allow the lower part of the esophagus which is the one that is most commonly affected to heal and as it heals it increase the defense mechanism against the acid of the stomach. Once, you have taken the medication for that period of time, usually more than half of the patients will feel better and would not require additional medications. You should seek medical attention if the symptoms do not seem to go away 'cos they could be a sign for something more serious and need to be addressed."
