"My name is Tobi Marsh and I'm going to be talking about entry level positions in medicine. I work with people who are primarily in transition, they may have skills that they applied in another field, but now want to go into healthcare because it is pretty stable and it's a growing industry. So some of the entry level positions for people who have a clerical background would be something like medical billing and coding or medical secretary, medical front office where they would be reception and clerical skills so they can utilize their skills from their previous career but apply it to the healthcare field. For those who are interested in the hands on patient care careers in healthcare, on of the best ways to get started is to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant or a CNA, because you get the practical experience of healthcare, and that's been a great entree for people who want to go on to perhaps a nursing. Another area that might be one of the areas that someone might be interested in would be phlebotomist, you're dealing with drawing blood and you're working in an environment where you're getting that again hands on experience which is another career field and an entry level position. Another area that some people are interested in are the back office and that entails more of again the clinical side. One of the best ways to get in to that field in addition to the training is doing volunteer work, I always encourage my clients to work as a volunteer where there opportunities. For someone who may want to go into pharmacy, there is a Pharmacy Technician position you would work with a Pharmacist and learn the background of that particular field. And then there's Dental Assistant for people who may want to go into that area of healthcare, because that's also a growing field. So those are some of the primary ways that a person without little or hardly any experience can get into that field, develop their expertise, and go on to have a very great career in medicine."
