"You may be dating someone that is in the process of a divorce and they're telling you that it's final or it's close to being final and you want to know what the status of this divorce is. Hello! I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to answer the question, how to find out the divorce status of someone? Well, first of all if you know that they're actually getting divorced and you know the county and state in which they state they're actually getting divorced. You may be able to access their records by Internet but more commonly family law matters are considered private and so to access these records even though they're private, they are a part of the public records. You may have to physically go to the courthouse and ask to check out for viewing that particular court file. In doing so, you can take a look at the pleadings, that is the legal documents that have been filed and you can see where the parties are. Have they simply filed the petition in an answer? Have they go into a hearing? Or is there an actually a final judgment of dissolution of marriage or final judgment of divorce. By looking at the file, you can tell what the status of the divorce is. I'm Robert Todd and thank you for watching."
