"You may be interested in criminal justice and/or social work, and you've recently heard about the job of a correctional counselor. Hello, I'm Robert Todd, and I'm here to discuss what is a correctional counselor? Well basically, in its simplest terms a correctional counselor is one who provides case management to those convicted of felonies and those convicted of misdemeanors. It is a hybrid type job and, of course, is going to vary from state to state, and sometimes within a particular state, from county to county. But generally speaking, a correctional counselor is going to be a hybrid police officer/social worker. They're going to be involved with individuals who are on parole who are in various stages of rehabilitation, and who are in various stages of serving time for crimes committed. They're going to be involved with talking to inmates lawyers, district attorneys, drug and alcohol rehabilitation counselors, and so forth in putting together plans and programs for these inmates to either complete their sentences, or help them get back into the community, and so forth and so on. It's a very, very broad field and a very, very up and coming field. I'm Robert Todd, and thank you for watching."
