Video Transcript

"Hi, I'm Donna Barnes, life and relationship coach here in New York City, and the author of It's All About You. To end a bad relationship can really be a tricky and hard thing, but the most important thing for you to do is to take care of yourself always. So if you're in a bad relationship, reach out to someone else to get help. There's all sorts of support groups. I mean, if this is a physically abusive relationship or something like that, then there are people that can help that can get involved because if you feel that your safety's in danger, then that's nothing something that you should take on on your own. But maybe it's just a verbally abusive relationship. There's an awful lot of those out there, and you need not to be in there. The most important thing you need to do is to take care of yourself, stand up for yourself, and don't allow them to manipulate you in any way. Put your foot down. If you feel like it's dangerous, then do that in a phone call. Do that from another location. If you've been living together, get all of your things out while he's not there or she's not there, so that you can avoid any kind of confrontation. Do not put yourself in danger in any way. Have someone else come with you or make sure that you keep yourself removed from them. But remember, taking care of you is your top priority."
