Hi I'm Donna Barnes, life and relationship coach here in New York City and the author of It's All About You. If you want to have a romantic dinner while you're out then the more you can prepare beforehand, the better. So try to get a reservation at a place and go and check it out maybe the night before and make sure it's not too loud. Nothing kills romance more if you're having to scream at each other or having to constantly say what over loud music. That's not romantic. So check it out and make sure it's got maybe some nice soft music or maybe a jazz little quartet in the corner would be very romantic. Do your homework, do some research and try to find a place that's going to have a good ambiance, not too loud that's not overly trendy so that even though you had a reservation you had to wait a half hour. But if that happens, remember this is all about spending time together in romance, don't stress out about anything if you've got to wait an hour for the table, then have a drink at the bar and try to take it as an opportunity to spend more time chatting and getting to know each other and don't let anything ruffle your feathers as they say. And if you can, maybe ask the maitre d', if he put you in a corner table or somewhere where you're more private so that you're not sandwiched between two other couples and then having to fight over their conversation and have them eavesdrop on what you're saying. And if you're the man, if you'd like to find out what the lady would like and then order for her, that's very romantic, it's certainly a nice gesture. Although let her have a say in what it is that she wants to eat. If you're going to completely order for her then that can come off like you're controlling and you're going to want to control everything that she did. But the keys to really having a great romantic dinner are to really put your focus on each other and while you enjoy the surroundings of the restaurant, don't make it about being at the restaurant. Really make sure that your focus is on each other. Make sure you're not looking around at everything else that's going on in the room and you're not listening to what the other person is saying, that's rude beyond not romantic. And if you're feeling nervous, maybe just go ahead and say that and get it out there, I betcha they're feeling nervous too. So just be yourself and try to relax and I think you'll have a really romantic dinner.
