"To be a wedding planner, you don't technically have to have a degree or a certification. You do need a telephone, Internet access, a computer. Brides work off of e-mail. Half of my brides text me like crazy in my BlackBerry so if you're not familiar with that, get familiar with it, it's a quick way to get information out back and forth. Go out and meet vendors in your area, who are your resources? Who are you going to be working with? Who do you want to work with? Go out and meet them, talk to them, let them know who you are, let them know you're here. If you're new, don't be afraid of that, it's OK, new people pop up all the time and they are great. So don't be afraid of that, let them know that you're new and you really want to get out there, talk to them, do they have any resources? If they have a bride, if you're a fellow photographer and you're speaking with a photographer who you consider a mentor, someone you really look up to and admire their work, would they work it out so if they can't take on a wedding, would they mind passing that information onto you so you can contact that client. Relationships aren't the key, but they can be the key. They're definitely not a bad thing. It takes time, it takes effort. You have to go out, you have to continue to meet people but it can be very beneficial for you."
