"Hi! This is Zephyr Clarke-Dolberg with Miami Dog Training in Miami, Florida. When you're talking about making a doggie door more secure, you know, they come in all different sizes from large to small, from cat size to a Great Dane or St. Bernard, or massive size. So, you know, a dog door really could be deemed that's anything that allows them to go in or out on their own free will. So, you know, whether that's just a screen that you have, kind of detached to the dog bein' it's own doggy door, or a doggy door that you buy. So, some of the ones that you buy do do come equipped with locks, some have a little knob that you turn at the bottom of the door that really, that keeps it locked and prevents them from going in or out, or other animals for going in or out. You know, there are also some of the larger versions have a metal, a sheet metal that slides down and locks the door to keep them from going in or out. It also keeps your house secure from, you know, maybe a burglar or maybe something like that. Now the chances are that if you have a big doggy door, there's not too many people that are going to be wanting to go through it. But, you know, in that case, one of the things you could do is they do have electronic doggy doors where your dog wears a magnet, a collar that has a magnet on it that unlocks it for that dog, same thing for cats, they have for cats. Because sometimes a problem that you run into is that a raccoon or a possum, depending on where you live, or maybe even another strayed dog could go through that door in search of food. You know, and basically you know, entering your house or even, you know, so basically what happens is as the dog goes, approaches the door and unlocks as it goes through the door and locks behind them so that other animals are not welcome in or out. So, that's just somethin' to think about in making doggy doors more secure."
