"How much gas can you save with properly inflated tires? This is a question that is being asked more and more frequently with gas prices on the rise. And there's no concrete answer. The simple answer is some. It depends on how under-inflated the tires were to begin with. It depends on what kind of fuel economy the vehicle gets. We might see one or two miles per gallon as a significant increase, whereas a vehicle that already gets very good fuel economy, might see the same improvement as more minor. But the fact of the matter remains that a proper inflation of tires not only will help you get better fuel economy, but it will improve the ride quality of the vehicle. It will improve the lifetime of the tire. You'll get more even wear, which means that you won't be buying tires as frequently. And it also makes the tire safer. An under-inflated tire can affect the handling of the vehicle and can lead to rollovers or accidents that could be avoided with a properly inflated tire. So make sure that you have a good tire gauge, and make sure that you follow the manufacturer's recommended tire pressure which does not necessarily correspond to the tire pressure listed on the tire and can be found in the owner's manual or on a data card located on the door or gas flap of the vehicle."
