"For anyone who is thinking about becoming a fashion designer I would say ask people that you know around you. My best resource is my grandmother. She kind of has the old school mentality as far as making garments. Everything is quality first. She is just a wealth of knowledge and then of course secondly I went to the Internet and I researched schools. I found a school. I worked with a counselor to get my perfect program. It took a lot of time probably a year and a half before I was actually there but the research is probably the most important tip that I could give on getting into the fashion design industry. Fashion shows that you see on television are absolutely a resource that you should look into. I use a couple websites that I go to religiously to see all the fashion shows that are happening as they happen if they show them live so I would absolutely do that. One hot tip that was particularly advantageous for myself is volunteering for fashion shows. A lot of people just claw their way up to try to get a position as an intern I called the marketing directors directly and many of them said yea absolutely if you can show up on Tuesday be here at nine. The conversations with them were very short but those pieces on my resume and those experiences were probably the most valuable that I had and it was from taking the initiative and volunteering."
