How to Grow Red Twig Dogwoods

"Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen, and in this segment we're going to talk about, how to grow red twig dogwood. Now red twig dogwood is a beautiful tree and it's from Indiana, it's a native to the Americas. And it's a great garden addition. It has beautiful red colored wood and then beautiful white flowers that are very fragrant in the summer. And it's pretty hardy even down to zones 5 or 6. So if you live in a colder zone you can always try to grow it near the house or in a container and bring it in. It's a beautiful plant that humming birds and butterflies really love. And it'll grow almost anywhere, it's a really pretty, pretty tree. It doesn't get really, really tall either, so it's great for smaller garden. And as long as you give it sun or part shade, give it lots of water, because it lives in the marshier areas in Indiana, it likes really wet soil, so it's great if you have a wet area. Make sure to give it good composted, good organic soil too so it gets lots of nutrition. And prune it back about 1/3 every year, just trim out about 1/3 of the branches so it can fill in a little better, and trim out any dead branches along the way. But the red twig dogwood is a beautiful addition to your garden."
