"Hi, I'm Steve Anthony, I'm a handyman here in New York City. Some of the advantages of engineered hardwood flooring are that it can be mass produced in a relatively inexpensive means. But let us start a little bit about what engineered hardwood is. In the old days you had, literally planks of oak or maple or whatever is the material was; dead county pine that were grove on each side; one side received a notch and the other side had a bead and they would fit together and you would layout your flooring this way. Engineered hardwood, it, it still uses wood but just a thin layer of wood on top of a less costly and more stable sub-straight; sometimes medium density fiberboards, sometimes particle board and what that does is it enables less wood to be used to cover more area. So where before it might have taken; you know, twenty trees to up, pulling a number of thin air to build a, a floor for a house; now maybe you can do that same area with only two trees. Again, don't hold me to those numbers, I'm just giving you an example. Some of the other engineered hardwood floors are using bamboo nowadays and this is a terrific alternative to some of the or traditional woods because bamboo is very hard; it's hard and dense like maple; but it's plentiful, relatively inexpensive and it's easy to replenish. It grows very quickly; much more quickly than hardwood. Takes many many years for a hardwood tree to mature. But bamboo, it matures so quickly that it's becoming a very cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to engineer a hardwood floor."
