So if you found yourself dreaming about being in some of the finest restaurants and trying out some of your own special recipes, then listen up as we talk about how to become an apprentice chef. One of the first suggestions that I would make is hang out at your favorite restaurant. Ask lots of questions of the wait staff and ask if you might be able to shadow the chef for a day. Secondly, look for positions in a restaurant trade so that you can gain valuable industry experience. Start with any job: cook, assistant cook, dishwasher, whatever it takes. Show initiative, show an interest in learning, ask lots of questions and show an interest in food and you'll gain some very valuable experience. Secondly, check out the local paper for apprentice chef positions. It never hurts to apply for these jobs as these jobs are designed to teach. Often times, you'll find employers that are willing to pay for you to take courses that will upgrade your skills. And the next step would be to talk to lots of people in the industry.
