"Hello, my name is Dr. James Dee, I'm with Hollywood Animal Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Ticks on the dog can be very devastating. They're both going to suck blood and have the opportunity to insert disease. The classic disease that we see are Lyme's disease, Anaplasmosis or Ehrlichiosis. Rocky Mountain Spotted fever is also one of those that is detrimental. Now the classic location of ticks on the dog, and hopefully we don't find any, is between the toes, on the bottom side of the foot. In the ear canal, and don't forget that little flap on the back of his ear. Usually if we have one, we have two or three. A large tick, a large gray tick potentially can drop several hundred young. It doesn't take very many ticks in the house to totally infest the house. Insecticides used on the dog are different than the normal insecticides that one would use for fleas. If we find the tick, we can either simply pick it out with our fingers. We can use a hemostat to grasp it and extract it, or tweezers. And then, drop it in alcohol in order for, to kill the tick, alcohol or an insecticide. This has been Dr. James Dee."
