"Hello, my name is Dr. James Dee. I'm with Hollywood Animal Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Home remedies for fleas. There are several out there that we all have tried years ago and fortunately there are much better opportunities now. In the past, we have used Thiamine orally added to the, to the food. Many people will take it in order to keep mosquitoes from getting on to their skin when they're out in fishing or hunting expeditions. We will use, in some case, garlic; doesn't seem to do very much. For the house, many people will use boric acid or boric powder in the carpeting and in the furniture to try to stop the reproduction of fleas. This seems to be fairly viable. So as far as for home, the thiamine, the B1 and the boric in the carpeting or probably adequate things that we could try. Now in the last several years we've been fortunate enough to have newer products developed. Products that started with Program, Proban, Advantage, Revolution, Confortis, many many more. All are very safe that, or actually veterinarians at this time; they will both or either stop the reproduction of fleas; stop the ability of the larva to break out of its egg case; repel fleas or kill the flea in the environment. We must in flea situations, treat both the dog and the environment. Other methods for the environment would be house sprays, house foggers or bombs. If using a bomb, be sure you pick up the edges of the bed sheet so the chemicals can get under the bed and keep the pet out of the area until it is safe according to the nature of the product."
