"Hello my name is Dr. James Dee. I'm with Hollywood Animal Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Canine pregnancy can either be planned or unplanned. Typically in the young female, or the bitch, when they're pregnant you may see signs of lethargy, impotence, decreased desire for food. As times goes on you may see an increase in appetite. In the early stages you may see an enlargement of the nipple area in normally the virgin bitch there will be little to no swelling below the nipple but in the pregnant female there is commonly an early development there. As we go further into the pregnancy now realize the pregnancy only goes from 60 to 63 days. As we get into about three to four weeks your veterinarian should be able to palpate the female to tell you if she is pregnant or perform an ultrasound."
