"Hi I'm Dr. Larry Klein, I'm a dentist here in St. Petersburg, Florida. And sometimes I'm asked what does it take to become a dental assistant. A dental assistant is a vital role, helping the dentist, and there is such a need for good ones out there, but you need to be properly trained. And you have different ones that are either certified dental assistants, or registered dental assistants. And there are different programs for each one. A basic dental assistant course can be taken at a community college, there are several around the country. You can check your dental society for one near you. And you will find that it usually depends on whether they have it in the day hours, or evening hours, once again that program is going to depend. But usually it's about seven hundred and fifty hours of for clinical I mean of book work, and probably about two hundred and fifty of clinical trials. And where they actually work with a dentist and become sort of use them as a mentor and learn the ropes. There is a lot of good opportunities in dental assisting, and helping with taking x-rays, and pouring models, and helping promote the dental profession.
