Summary: Owning a pet chinchilla requires providing a water bottle, laying down paper, aspen or hemp bedding, offering dust baths, and providing a large cage. Create a comfortable habitat for a new pet chinchilla with advice from the manager of a pet store in this free video on exotic pets.
"Hi my name is Jennica from Pet Planet at Riverton, Utah. We will be talking about owning a pet chinchilla. The basics that you need would be a water bottle, that you would have to actually rinse out every day and get them some fresh water, a bowl. The food that they need is just basically chinchilla food. You can find it at a pet store. The bedding that they need you would want to use paper or aspen or hemp bedding, anything that doesn't have too, doesn't have any oil in it. They do need a house, something that they can chew on. This plastic thing is good. You can actually also use this for a chinchilla bath. They actually need to be bathed in dust. You would just pour it in and they go in, they know that they need to use it and they roll around in it and it softens their fur and cleans them. You can also use these pet hammocks. They like to be in there and it helps them feel secure and they like closed spaces. The best type of cage would, size of cage would be a 6 X 6 X 3 feet. If you don't want to use that big of a cage then you can also use anything smaller than that. They do need a little bit more outdoor exercise if you get a cage smaller than that.
