"Hi, I'm Rebecca Guenther with m5A1photography.com, and I'm going to talk to you about troubleshooting digital photography printing. What you're going to want to do if you have a photograph and you print it out and it doesn't look right or how you want it to look, you're going to want to start out by calibrating your monitor because chances are if your monitor's not calibrated, you're...that's where you're getting the idea that something doesn't look right. That's not to say that your printer is correct. It's to say that it doesn't look right. You just think it looks right. Once you've calibrated your monitor, you'll see the true colors that the digital file has, and then you'll know what you need to do to adjust the printer. Chances are, it's just a slight shift in color. Maybe the levels are off. Maybe you need to adjust the contrast. If you get the image looking the way you want it to look on your monitor and your monitor is calibrated and you go to print and the print comes out completely off, you're going to need to go into the printer settings and adjust how the printer is calibrated. Oftentimes, your printer will come with instructions for this or you can easily find them online. Whoever manufactured your printer will probably have information on how to do that. However, if you feel confident that you could go into the photograph itself -- into the file -- and you think, "Okay. Well, when it prints, it's just a tiny bit too cyan." Go in, take out a little bit of cyan. That'll probably even it up for you right there. If it's printing out too black, just lighten it up overall. There's...you know, there's a way around it without spending all that time calibrating your printer unless you're going to be printing a lot, in which case, I would highly recommend it. But that's just the main...the basic surface gist of how to deal with troubleshooting when you're printing color digital photographs."
