"Hi this is Athena Reich and I'm an actress, singer, songwriter and performing arts coach here in New York City. In order to become a wedding singer, I would suggest that you first go on the Internet and Google wedding bands. Google agencies that represent wedding bands because what you will find when you find reputable wedding bands with great looking websites, who will have a lot of experience that they will list their repertoire meaning the songs that they sing. So they will just list it right there on the website. So look at that list of songs and think to yourself can I sing these songs? Work and if you really want to become a wedding singer, sing those songs. Practice those songs with a music coach or on your own or karaoke or whatever but get really good, pick maybe 5 to 10 to 15 of those songs and really practice them. Change the key as a wedding singer you're allowed to have a lot of say in what key so you can lower the key if it's too high or make it higher if it's too low. But you put in a key that's comfortable and build your repertoire. OK now you're ready to go there and audition as a wedding singer. What you can do is you can go on craigslist, you can look in newspapers for ads for people who are looking for wedding singers. Or start your own wedding band. Get some friends together, you really just need a piano player, a drummer, a guitarist, a bass players, you don't even need a piano player. Maybe a few trumpet player friends thrown in for good measure. Rehearse, it's top 40 songs, love songs, so rehearse and then if you've got your act together, make a demo CD and contact an agent."
