"Hi this is Athena Reich and I'm an actress, singer, songwriter and performing arts coach here in New York City. In order to properly review a keyboard, you need to know exactly what you're looking for. Are you looking for a digital piano? A digital piano is a keyboard that you're going to have in your home that you're not going to schlep out to gigs, move around, put in your van and take it across country and tour. A digital piano is not what this is. This is a gig keyboard, it's very lightweight. A digital piano is has 88 keys fully weighted that means that there's weight in them so it's heavy, it has a very nice piano sound. So some of the best models are always Roland and Yamaha and you're basically looking, the weight of it doesn't matter because it's not going to move, you want something that actually is aesthetic, looks beautiful in your home and has a good sound. Now if you want a keyboard to gig, the best one I can recommend is Yamaha NP30 which is this one right here, just came out a year ago and the great thing about is it's only 11 pounds. It's not weighted keys OK? So it means the keys bounce back very quick, it doesn't have a real piano feel to it, but oh my gosh is it light and it's only 77 keys but that's better than 66 keys. Now if you're just starting out, you don't really know if you want to invest a lot of money, this here for example was 2 or 300 dollars but say you want to spend like 50 bucks or 100 dollars, get a Casio. A Casio is a really good beginner piano. They come in like 66 keys or less. They're totally lightweight and they're easy. So I would say Roland or Yamaha if you're a professional, a cheap Casio is a good way to begin."
