"Hi, this is Athena Reich and I'm an actress, singer, songwriter and performing arts coach here in New York City. In this clip I'm going to talk about how to copyright a song. The major way that people copyright songs is through a performing; a songwriting organization. So in America, bmi.com or ASCAP, a-s-c-a-p; ascap.com or SESAC are the three ones you can register if you're a songwriter; s-e-s-a-c; SESAC. If you're in Canada, SOCAN, socan.ca; is the place to go. You can go and you can register your music and it will be pretty much protected. If you want to be extra sure and cautious, you can register with Library Congress and it's about thirty five, forty or forty five dollars and you can actually mail your CD to the Library Congress Copyright Office; Independence Avenue, South East, Washington D.C. 20559. You can also call them at 202-707-3000 to get more information. You can also Google it. But I suggest, just calling them directly so that you get the right information. There's a lot of fraud on the Internet; so you want to be careful about who you give your money to on the Internet. But you can call that number; once again, 202-707-3000. This has been Athena Reich on how to copyright a song."
