"Hi, this is Athena Reich, and I'm an actress, singer-songwriter and performing arts coach here in New York City. In this clip, I'm going to talk about how to get a job as a singer. Well, you definitely need to make sure that you're a good singer, so you should be taking singing lessons or at least practicing... practice, practice, practice, getting lots of experience, going to open mics and performing. You could make your own CD. This is my CD, which really, helps promote you. You could make your own MySpace page or your own website. You could go to sonicbids.com and create your own electronic press kit which you can upload pictures of yourself and your music, but really the key is to go and network. Go... you know, I've been hired sometimes to perform as a singer just by walking down the street, noticing a really beautiful, cute little cafe that has live music, walking in, introducing myself, you know, talking to them and they say, "Great! Send me and email with a link to your music." And I do and they say, "Great! We'd love to have you come and perform." So sometimes it's just being resourceful and having the guts to put yourself out there and to network with the right people. But really, It could be random. Sometimes you could find the cutest little cafe that's just opening up that's willing to pay you to host an open mic while you sing, so just be creative, network, pull yourself out there, hone your craft, create a CD, make a web presence, you know, talk to friends, family and everybody you meet about what you're trying to do. So there's no one way to get a job as a singer, but there's definitely thousands. This has been Athena Reich in New York City."
