"Hi I'm Donna Barnes, life and relationship coach here in New York City and the author of It's All About You. In this clip we'll talk about how to be popular in junior high school. So I guess the first thing to tell you is that everybody out there in junior high is just as insecure as you probably are so it helps to keep that in mind. But what really makes somebody popular is the people who are likable. So if you're nice to people, if you smile, if you don't talk negatively about anybody, you don't talk behind their back, you're not nasty, that's a really good start. Secondly if you can afford it, what you wear is very popular in high school, in a junior high school. At that age your jeans are really important, your sneakers are really important, maybe what kind of music you're listening to on your iPod, so kind of look around and see what everybody else is wearing and get a sense of what you like and if you can afford to wear those kind of things, then that helps. But in lieu of having to spend money for what you wear, you can also join all different kinds of groups and organizations, if you play a sport, join that sport or anything that you can do within school to really meet more friends and then be popular. The more people you know the more chance you have to be popular. So try to join the more popular groups if you can. I think that certainly helps with the popularity. But the most important thing is really just to be confident about who you are. Really feel good about yourself and don't take yourself too seriously and try not to over think everything, just enjoy yourself and be nice to the people around you and I guarantee you'll be popular. It's not as hard as it seems. So if you just try to take a deep breath and put yourself out there, then you'll be popular. This is Donna Barnes from New York City."
