"I'm Dr. David Thomas. I'm a practicing psychotherapist with the Whitford-Thomas Group in Tampa, Florida here to discuss homeopathic remedies for depression. Before I get into the homeopathic remedies it is important for us to recognize what creates depression. When we talk about depression if you ask most people about depression they are going to tell you that external factors create or cause depression. Interestingly the perpetrator is not external factors though, it's ourself in the form of our thinking. So when we talk about depression we are really talking about the thinking that drives that so how does homeopathic remedies kind of fit into that? Well it really doesn't. When we are talking about homeopathic remedies we will be talking remedies that might be similar to like an allergy medicine or anything that you would take that would kind of help you to feel better but with depression we wouldn't really just want to feel better really we'd want to get better, get better in a sense that the symptoms of depression not only are reduced but they are not that intense when you do experience them and they don't last as long so duration, intensity and frequency would be important goals in regarding to changing thinking. So homeopathic remedies might help you to feel better, there is probably tons of those, they are like comfort food. I always laugh at my wife that comfort food for me is a fish fillet at McDonald's plain of course because I am driving but certainly comfort foods can be helpful. So you could feel better but you really want to get better and so you really want to kind of prevent the tendency to get depressed in the future you would really want to reduce that significantly. How you would do that is work on changing your thinking. How do you learn how to change your thinking you could read about it but certainly have an appointment with a cognitive behavior therapist who specializes in thinking that drives negative mood states would be helpful. Well hopefully this information I have provided you today regarding homeopathic remedies for depression has been helpful. From sunny Tampa, Florida I'm Dr. David Thomas."
