"I'm Dr. David Thomas, I'm a practicing psychotherapist with the Whitford Thomas Group in Tampa, Florida here to discuss Celexa and depression, the side effects of taking that medication. Celexa is what we call an SSRI which is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor. Other medications you may be more familiar with that these SSRI's are Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil. And they all have pretty much the same type of side effects. Certainly with all medications if you read the side effects or the warning that give you many, many, many side effects that could be experienced or often experienced when taking medications. But the side effects usually come in three areas. One, a form of migraine headaches. Another is in nauseas, digestive system type disorders. And the third is in sleep disorders. So if you kind of categorize the side effects of Celexa in those areas, headaches, migraines typically, digestive issues, bowel movements, diarrhea, things of that sort, nauseousness, sick to your stomach type of feeling or sleeping disorders which can be sleep disturbance where you either can't get to sleep or once you get to sleep you wake up early or you tend to sleep all the time. Those are the typical side effects of all the SSRI's and as with a lot of psychotropic type medications, medications that we prescribe to folks for psychiatric or axis 1 mood disorders be it anxiety, depression or even anger sometimes. Well I hope this information I provided for you regarding the side effects of Celexa has been helpful. From sunny Tampa, Florida, I'm Dr. David Thomas."
