"I'm Dr. David Thomas. I'm a practicing psychotherapist with the Whiteford-Thomas Group in Tampa, Florida here to discuss sleeping disorders associated with anxiety. Sleeping disorders tends to be a symptom associated with anxiety as well as depression and they are not that unlike each other but when we are talking about anxiety and sleeping disorders they can come in two ways, individual sleep can be disturbed in the sense that they have trouble falling asleep, often times what you find with anxiety is individuals are able to fall asleep very easily but then wake up a few hours before they normally would. So if they tend to wake up at six or seven o'clock in the evening or in the morning often times they'll wake up at three or four o'clock and be unable to get back to sleep. With some individuals sleeping disturbance comes in the form of sleeping all the time and that would be in relative to avoidance type behaviors because they find facing certain life events be it work or relationships, family, parenting to be extremely difficult and anxiety provoking and so they use sleeping as a mechanism to in fact avoid facing life difficulties so sleep disturbance can come in both difficulty in your patterns of sleeping as well as sleeping more than usual. Well I hope this information I provided you has been helpful regarding sleep disturbance, sleeping disorders with anxiety. From Tampa, Florida, I'm Dr. David Thompson."
