"Hi, let's talk a little bit about how to host a work-related wedding shower. Let's be honest brides, I know you've been planning that wedding on work time. You've been sharing the details with your coworkers and they want to celebrate with you. So if you're an office-mate of a bride to be, this is a great idea. It's a lot of fun and it is the exception to the invited wedding guests only rule. Showers are usually invited guests only, but if you have friends at work that want to celebrate for the bride, that is absolutely okay. Keep it simple. A work related shower, is usually done on work time, so it needs to be pretty low key and pretty simple. It may be just a group of girls going out to lunch together, and that's great. That's fine. If you want to do something in the office, you can use the conference room on lunch hour or after in the after noon. But everything should be simple about this. Food should be a cake only, or if you are going to do lunch, maybe something really easy like pizza or little catered lunch boxes, very very low key. Keep the gifts... best way to keep the gift simple: group gift, two words, group gift. Figure out something on her registry that everybody can go in on together, and if you're the person organizing this, let everybody know what it is, what the contribution is. You may want to take those contributions up front so that you can... or before choosing the gift to find out what you can afford. Either way is okay, but let everybody know what's going on. Everybody contributes on a gift. Then get a card and make sure that everybody has chance to sign that card. You can give that to her at the shower. That makes it really really easy. One more thing, and this is actually the most important of everything... Check with the boss, the head of HR, your immediate supervisor, whoever is in charge and clear this with them before you do it. Make sure it's okay. You may even want to invite them. That helps get the yes answer. Have a great time."
