Hi, I'm Rachel Yatuzis and I'm going to show you how to care for wool rugs. First off, wool rugs are going to shed depending on how often, you know, err, or how often people are walking on them. If they're in a high traffic area, they're going to shed a little bit more and the first tip to caring for a wool rug is vacuuming it. Now you don't want to just run your vacuum over it with the rest of your carpet. This is going to pull some of the fibers out and make, you know, bare spots in your rug, so you want to use the attachment and actually get down and do it by hand just like this. Another thing that's going to happen if you have a rug in your home and if you live in your home, you're going to get spots on your rug, so keep a spot remover handy that is safe to use on wool. Make sure to read the directions on your rug and see if it suggests using some, you know, a specific type of cleaner. And when you buy a cleaner, double check on the label and make sure it's safe to use on wool, and even then, I would try it out on an inconspicuous spot, maybe on a corner or something like that where there's some fringe so you can make sure it's not gonna, you know, take the color outta your rug. You don't want to have a big pale spot where you did have a stain. It doesn't look that much better. So spot clean your rug as needed and then in the spring and in the fall is when you're going to want to clean your rug completely. In that case, you're going to take it outside and sponge it down with some nice, sudsy water with mild, mild dish soap and spray it off with a hose and let it dry. If you do this, your rug will last a lot longer and it's going to look a lot better for your guests. I'm Rachel Yatuzis and that is how you care for a wool rug.
