"Hi I'm Dr. David Hill and today we're going to talk about trying to have a baby without using fertility pills. As people spend more and more time on their education and get married later, we're finding that more and more couples have a difficult time conceiving a child when they want to. It's almost a national epidemic. Now some people suffer from medical problems that have to be addressed by a doctor and I would encourage you if you've been trying for 3 months or 6 months and haven't any success, go ahead and see your obstetrician and talk to that person about what you may be able to do. But if you're at the beginning of this process and you're pretty sure that everybody is healthy, then there are some things you can do to improve your chances. Number one, learn when you're ovulating. You should be able to count about 14 days forward from the beginning of your period and know that the ovulation is coming but you can also learn to chart your core temperature by buying an ovulation thermometer and plotting your temperature from day to day taking it at the same time everyday. There are even ovulation prediction kits that look for hormones in your urine. You can find these in most major drugstores, there are a bunch of brands and the instructions will be right there on the box. Try if you can to time intercourse for 6 days prior to your period. We've discovered that almost all conception occurs as a result of intercourse that happens in that time. So this is one version of the rhythm method except you're sort of shooting for the opposite result. So again, if you're trying to have a baby without resorting to fertility pills, learn when you ovulate. Learn about your body core temperature as a prediction of ovulation. Go ahead and invest in some fertility kits and time intercourse for the first 6 days or I guess the last 6 days before your period comes on. Best of luck to you and when you have that baby, guess you're going to need a good pediatrician. Talking about timing the pregnancy without using fertility pills, I'm Dr. David Hill."
