Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen, and in this segment we're going to talk about the different types of landscape plants. There's so many millions of types of plants that you can use in your garden, but they fall under different categories. So, when your designing your garden you want to make sure that you design your garden for the flowers and plants that you enjoy and that will look good in your garden and first of all you want to have trees in your garden. If you have a small, small city lot, you want to make sure that you don't select large, large trees that are going to get forty feet tall and twenty feet wide. You want to select smaller dogwoods or lilacs or plants that are going to stay on the smaller side. If you have a larger property then go for the larger trees, and then once you've got the larger trees selected, then go for some smaller trees; some maples and then go for your shrubs and bushes, camellias or azaleas or rhododendrons and then you want to go to your different types of grasses. I love ornamental grasses. So, you want to have a little bit of everything in your garden, and once you've got the ornamental grasses selected, then make sure to add lots of perennials and annuals, and perennials are plants that come back year after year after year and flower bulbs are great for that. So, you want tulips and daffodils in the spring, and lilies and calla lilies and tigridia and watsoni and all the exotics in the summer. And then you also want to add some annuals which are plants that bloom all summer and through the fall and then they don't come back the next unless you replant them. So pansies or primulas or any type of little bedding plants or geraniums are beautiful for that. And so once you've got a mix of every type of plant, then you'll find that you can enjoy your garden every season. And the joy of gardening is having beautiful foliage in the spring, summer and fall as well as gorgeous flowers. You can have a cutting garden so pick plants and flowers that are very fragrant or you can have flowers that are just used for cut flowers. So, then you can select that type. You can use different color schemes, but make sure that you always design your garden with the foliage and the colors and the seasons in mind, and that way you can enjoy all the plants in your garden all year round.
