"Once you got all your information in front of you W2's, 10-99's, social security numbers for everybody involved, all of the social security numbers, personal information, addresses etc. You also need bank accounts, a list of all of your potential deductions, all of any other sources of income. You got a decision to make with regard to do you want to use a tax professional to e-file. Do you want to use your personal computer and tax software? Or do you want to use the IRS website. Depending on what you choose, obviously a tax preparer you basically give them all of your information, they'll handle it from there usually. The pre-packaged software such as TurboTax or or the like will typically walk you through the process. Once you get your return completed they will show you how to do the e-file. And with the IRS you just go their website, click on the appropriate links and it will walk you right through the process."
