What Is the Function of Flowers on Plants?

"Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment we're going to answer the question, what is the function of flowers on plants? Now flowers bloom to make seed pods, to save themselves and to regenerate to have another generation. So flowers have a life cycle. And basically they grow from a seed, they make greenery, the green develops into a plant. And then when it gets to late summer into fall, they'll send off blooms that make seed pods. So that they can regenerate and come back the next year from the seeds. So basically, the flower is the sexual organ of a plant. And it contains the male and the female parts and the organs. So basically, plants get pollinated by the wind, by birds, and by bees and even butterflies. And so they depend on different creatures to take the male part and pollinate the female part. And then that way, it can produce seed pods. The plant can go on for many generations. So a plant will survive, even if it doesn't produce a flower many times, because the roots will multiply on their own. And some plants don't bloom the first year. But plants have blooms so that they can have genetic diversity. So the only way that they can get genes from other plants, is through pollen. Because the bulbs or the roots, they will multiply but they just clone themselves. And so plants need some genetic diversity. Because they will not be as strong over the generations, if they don't get new genes. So flowers are the answer, and that way they can grow for many, many years."
