"How's it going? This is Brandon Pearce with Foolish Pride Tattoo Company in St. Petersburg, Florida to talk to you a little bit about why piercings close up. Piercings close up because it is a hole in your skin. Your body is very resilient. It knows how to close around things. The only reason a piercing stays open is because you actually have a piece of jewelry keeping it from closing completely. The length of time it takes for a piercing to close is all relative. It changes from person to person. It depends on how long that piercing is in and it depends on how quickly your body heals. I have had piercings actually close up in a matter of minutes. I had a piercing close up in 25 minutes. I have also had some that have stayed open for years so it is all relative. The reason why they close is just because your skin is closing around like it would any cut, scrape, anything like that. Your body is very very resilient so that's a good way to assess how quickly your piercing is going to close up, it is pretty much how long you've had the piercing in. Other than that just keep your piercings clean, keep the jewelry in it and they shouldn't close. Again this is Brandon Pearce with Foolish Pride Tattoo Company."
