How to Prune Hybrid Tea Roses

"Hi I'm Stan DeFreitas, Mr Green Thumb. If you've got hybrid tea roses, you know that you need to trim them from time to time. Typically hybrid teas have that nice pretty long stem with a pretty flower on top. Now this one's kind of spent but what you typically would do would be to come in here and trim it from the mother plant and you go ahead and take this whole stem off. Now this one as we say is sort of spent, but if you had a nice tight bud, you'd come back in, trim off your hybrid tea probably 12, 18 inches from the top of the plant. So you've got a nice long stem, you do two things, A, you've got something you can put into a vase and have inside and also you do some good for the plant by trimming back the plant we stimulate the plant to start more growth which means in probably about 3 or 4 weeks you should have flowers again. So trimming your hybrid teas is a good things. Remember hybrid teas are usually taller then most of your floribundas and they usually have like one flower on the top of that stalk. That's one reason you know it's hybrid tea as opposed to floribundas or some of the other miniature types.
