"Hey, it's Rokosz, your digital lifestyle expert here, and we're discussing what is a dual DVD writer. Well, let's take a look at what a dual DVD is first. Obviously, we know a DVD which is a digital video disc or digital versatile disc; technically not the right term for it but that's usually what the official makers of the DVD's actually make no reference to or about whether what the DVD stands for. Originally, DVD was digital video disc, thought to be; then moved to digital versatile disc based on the fact that well, it did a lot more than just digital video. You can it's a great volatile storage. You can store things on there like well, just about anything digitally; your files, your photographs, your movies in whatever format you choose. Now, when the disc came out, and the ones we're mostly familiar with store about 4.7 gigabytes of information on it. Now, the the the change is to find out how can we take the same piece of optical media like a DVD and get more information on it. Well, we do that by creating a second layer. It's actually a physical second layer. It's no thicker. If you look really closely you still can't see it on the disc, and a dual DVD, a a dual layer recorder has the ability to take advantage and write on both layers. So, just because you have a a dual layer disc doesn't mean you can put it into just any writer. It's gotta' be a dual rayer dual layer writer. Now, keep in mind that they are backwards compatible, meaning if you've got your standard single layer discs you can actually put it and read and write into them normally. Now, on these, to even kick it up another notch is what they did is they did dual sided, so you've got dual layer, dual sided, can give you up to 14 gigabytes of storage on one piece of disc. Now, you would need a DVD dual layer reader/writer in order to make full use of that, but it's a great way. They've come down inexpensively now. You can find a good one for about a hundred dollars. A really good one still in the five hundred dollar range for a super, super good quality one but what it does is allows you to make the most use out of what is a relatively inexpensive storage device. They make a very good, DVD dual layers make very good volatile storage, and about thirty years minimum before they start any degradation as long as you keep control of them and they don't get scratched, aha, and/or warped. Don't leave em' in the car. So, that's a little bit about how to use, and what goes on, and what happens with a dual DVD recorder. I'm Rokosz, your digital lifestyle expert, sayin' stream ya' later."
