"Hey it's Rokosz, your digital lifestyle expert here discussing when the first CD player was introduced. Well I remember it was introduced to me was Christmas of 1990. Santa Claus came down the chimney and bestowed upon a little tiny digital lifestyle expert, his first CD player and I believe the first track was the soundtrack to Animal House, yeah. Louie Louie. But the rest of the country was able to get it a little bit earlier if you had the jack. Sony officially announced the CDP101 for commercial sales in October, October 1, 1982. If you had 1,000 dollars, 900 in change, back in that day you too could own that very first play. Now it's interesting to note that Sony decided to name it the CDP101 as opposed to the CDP100 as homage to the fact that it was digital and the alternating of the 1's and 0's, 01, 01, 01 that made up the new digital revolution. Our lives were changed forever with these little shiny discs, you could hear it in pure, pure digital sound. It was a complete departure from tapes and vinyl that was available at the time. It was a glorious, glorious day. Little bit of trivia for you, the discs were engineered to be 74 minutes long so that a Mozart concerto, the one that was beloved by the president and CEO and designer of the Sony corporation at the time could listen to it on one disc. It's funny when you have that much control you can say you know what, make it so I can hear this, I don't want to change two discs. And that's how it came to be. And such is history, like me, Rokosz your digital lifestyle expert saying stream you later."
