What is sculpture? You know being an artist in 2009, having grown up during well periods that had happened before me with the beginning of abstract expressionism and conceptual art and all the different kinds of art one of the roles of the artist has been to break down any barriers that exist, especially with performance art and crossing disciplines. There aren't now the traditional divides of painting sculpture or photography. Many artists work in mixed media where what they are interested in doing is not limited by which medium that they are in. Now for sculpture today that encompasses all different kinds of media from video art to temporary art here at this studio we sculpt mostly in clay and produce things for site work that is permanent. But if you look at probably the most prominent sculpture magazine today that is put out by The International Sculpture Art Center called Sculpture and you'll find every conceivable kind of three dimensional art in that. I guess in some ways it is what is sculpture? It is anything in three dimensions although it could be a combination of painting and video, all kinds of things so really to answer that question it is nowadays the barriers have been broken down and it really can mean any kind of form that exists in three dimension.
