"The question is, what do Ring Necked snakes eat? This is a small type of snake, the species is Diadophis Punctatus. And it is a small species with a wide distribution in the United States. It gets it's name from the small ring, colored ring around their neck. Like I said, it's a small snake, it's considered to be harmless to humans. However it has a weak venom in it's saliva. This venom is used of course, to capture prey. What it likes to eat in the wild, is primarily earthworms, due to it's small size. Other small snakes, small lizards and things of that nature. And so they use this weak venom to subdue their prey and then they can go ahead and ingest it. And so it's a small snake with a wide distribution, that also will eat some amphibians like salamanders, small frogs, things of that nature."
