"OK so what is international travel insurance? International travel insurance will protect you pretty much all the way around when you're planning one of your big, exciting trips. When you go to a travel agency they should offer you international travel insurance with your set packages either with the tour operator that you're traveling with or separate through a company such as Travel Guard. It covers you for cancellation due to any unforeseen circumstances whether it be a medical illness with a traveling party or immediate family or a death or illness in the immediate family. It also covers you while you are traveling overseas if someone were to incur medical expenses. You need to check with your insurance company before you travel overseas and make sure, see what they cover. 90% of the time they will not cover everything or maybe a partial portion if you incur expenses overseas so you need to find out what they cover. And then the travel insurance you purchase will pickup where your insurance company leaves off. Medical expenses, trip interruption, it also covers if you had any baggage theft, loss of baggage, any emergency medical transportation that you may need. Typically you'll have 24 hour travel service while you're overseas so there's always someone to talk to. So like I said, you should have it offered to you whatever travel agency you're working through and if you don't do a set tour package and you're doing something else such as your airline tickets with them, they should at least offer you the travel insurance as a courtesy if you're working through them in their office."
