"In this clip I will talk about the different degrees as far as starting in the field of commercial art and graphic design. In my case I had gone for a two year program and gotten my Associate's Degree from a local community college and with an Associate's Degree actually you could go places. You could get a start up job and get some job experience and when I applied with an Associate's Degree at the time to another college, I couldn't get admission to the college unless I had an Associate's. So it was actually very instrumental for me as far as applying to going on to getting my Bachelor of Arts which is ultimately the four year degree that I got in commercial art. But along the way at times as a personal challenge for myself I applied for scholarships and put my artwork out there and tried to see if I could get some different recognition for the artwork that I did and when I was in college I was presented with the Connecticut Art Director's Club. This was awarded to college students and this was based on a portfolio review and I believe it was a 100 word essay that accompanied the art work and in the business world when I was actually doing work there was an organization that presented these awards. It was the ACLA and they recognized designer for different pieces that we had done and they gave out these awards at a really nice dinner and so from time to time it goes beyond a degree, the diploma can extend when you are in the business world into getting collective awards from your peers and from people in the community and it's a nice pat on the back because it sort of gives you the praise of knowing that what you are doing is making a difference."
