"Ok, my name is Dr. Bill Hughson a clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, San Diego. And I am the director of the UCSD center for occupational and environmental medicine. I think the fundamental to this is to remain as active as you can. It's the old adage, if you don't use it you lose it, is very true for cancer patients. In fact the functional status of a patient which is can they get out of bed, can they dress themselves, bathe themselves, feed themselves, get out of the house. You need adequate nutrition and you need adequate hydration. And very often in hospital you can get advice from the dietary department to get enough calories in to keep your weight stable. It is not good for cancer patients to lose weight."
