Hi my name is John Bosworth. I'm a licensed mental health counselor in private practice in St. Petersburg, Florida. I'd like to talk a little bit about what are psychology careers with a Bachelor's degree? Most people that go into psychology besides all the good looking girls in the class tend to either want to go on into graduate school or to find some type of graduate education. With a Bachelor's degree psychology careers tend to be pretty limited. That doesn't mean they're not out there but they are limited as far as income and the scope of work that you can actually do with the individuals that you are working with. When I think of Bachelor's degrees in psychology what I usually think of are kind of the mental health tech jobs like if you work for an agency say a high risk or a medium risk youth facility where boys from the ages of 12 to 18 are locked up for nine months. When I think of Bachelor's degree I think of mental health techs and some of the people on the back lines there and sometimes they'll do a little bit of counseling. You know they might do a little bit of counseling under the supervision of a mental health counselor or a psychologist but most Bachelor's level or entry level jobs in psychology tend to be very minimum pay probably in the low 20's, 20 to 23,000, 25,000 maybe and the responsibilities are not really that great as far as one to one interaction with the patient but the downside of it is there is usually a lot of paperwork and the turnover in some of those jobs especially in agency work or in residential facilities tends to be pretty high.
