Video Transcript

"Hi we're here to talk about how to request copies of your old tax returns from the IRS. The IRS maintains tax returns, and you can get copies back as far as six years. If you fill out a form 4506, and the costs is fifty-seven dollars per year to get copies of your returns, that includes copies of all the attachments, W2s, etc. Now if you don't need all of the detail, you just need a transcript, they will provide transcripts free of charge. And you can either call or email them or fax them. The IRS also offers transcripts, tax return transcripts or tax account transcripts. A tax return transcript will show the details of your filing, it just won't have all of the attachments and everything with it. And if you need something that shows any changes that were made after your original filing, you would need to request the tax account transcript. Both of those are free of charge, and can be requested for the last three years."
