"Hi, my name is Dave Andrews. Today I'm going to talk to you about increasing your dial up speed. Now one thing that you can consider when you're using dial up is the time of day that you're accessing your dial up network. Now keep in mind that you have to compete on those lines with people who are using their home telephone lines to communicate with each other. So let's try to keep in mind when people will be using their telephones the most. It's usually going to be after dinner time; maybe six to eight; you know, and also in the morning between maybe seven and ten and the at noon, people are going to be using them quite a bit. So the best thing you can do is use your Internet late at night or early in the morning. Now there are couple more things you can do, technology-wise to speed up your dial up as well. Let's go to our computer; the first thing I'm going to do is I'm going to open up my web browser and I'm going to disable the automatic download of images. The way I'm going to do this is I'm going to click on my tools; I'm going to go to Internet options. Let's go to the advanced tab and scroll down a little bit until you see multi-media and then unchecked show pictures. Hit apply and then hit okay; okay again and let's close our web browser. Now what that has done is disabled the automatic downloading of images and that'll cause web pages to actually load text a whole lot faster than they would have before. I just reopen my web browser and as you see, there's no images here and that popped up very, very quickly. And the way to show an image, if you are interested in seeing it is to right click on it and then click show picture. Now, pages that have a lot of images can download slowly on dial ups; so this is a good tip. Secondly, let's use the Google cash to browse a website. Go to Google; if I want to search for a page; like I'll just search for my name here. In number two here, DCA Software Development that's my website; I'm going to use the Google cash to pull that up. Now Google servers maybe quite a bit faster than most servers out there; so if you connect to Google servers to pull up information, you might download a page faster. Just keep in mind this is a snapshot of the page, it's not actually the page as it exists now; so this won't really work for new sites or Internet forums. But this can help for most static pages that you're trying to open up. My name is Dave Andrews and I've just showed you how to increase your dial up speed."
