"Hi, my name is Dave Andrews, today I am going to talk to you about T1 lines. Now the question I am going to answer is, what is a T1 line? A T1 line is a system that is delivered to a company and maintained by a company by the telephone service that that company uses. A T1 is allows you to basically connect multiple buildings together with a very fast network connection or you can connect to the Internet using a T1 and get a very fast Internet connection. Now the way it does this is actually through a combination of telephone lines. If you have let's say you have twenty-four telephone lines you have a twenty-four port T1, you can take sixteen of those lines and you can dedicate those sixteen to be used primarily for Internet traffic. Each one of these lines is basically a back and forth telephone line like you get to your house, but you can have sixteen separate lines devoted to Internet and the rest of those lines devoted to telephones that way you can have eight lines for your company. You can do it to where you have twenty lines devoted to the Internet and four lines devoted for telephone, the more lines you devote to an Internet connection the faster your Internet connection will be, if you only use two of them it will be a slow Internet as opposed to twenty of them using a faster Internet. Let me show you a quick picture here of a T1. Now down here at the very bottom this is what is interesting here, the T1 line comes in from the telephone company and that thing connects to a T1 router of some type. Now it is that router that does the breaking up and controlling of what each of the lines that the T1 uses will be, now that has to be programed into some sort of external device from the T1 because the telephone company is only providing you the lines they do not really care what you use them for. So it is important to know that on a T1that it is basically a combination of telephone lines form the telephone company that can be used as either data transmission for Internet connections or for telephone transmissions for voice just like we are used to using. My name is Dave Andrews and I have just told you what a T1 line is."
