"Hi, my name is Dave Andrews. Today I'm going to show you how to create desktop icons. Let's go to our computer and what I'm going to use to do this is a program called Gimp. It's a free download from gimp.org, that's G I M P. Now I've got it downloaded and installed and I'm going to start a new project by clicking on file, clicking new and I'm going to make my icon here 64 by 64 width and height. So what I'm going to do is I'm just going to draw some things here, I'm just going to basically put a little squiggle and maybe a little red squiggle on top of that and that's going to be my cool new desktop icon. So once you have what you would like to see drawn, of course you have lots of tools over here in Gimp that you can do something much more advanced then this. Go to file and then click on save as. Now we want to do select file type by extension here. I'm going to expand that to where I can see it a little bit better. And the one we're going to choose is an ICO, Microsoft Windows Icon, the extension ICO. It's going to ask me where I want to save it, I'm going to click browse for other folders. I'm going to make this a little bit larger again. I'm going to uncheck select file type. Now I'm going to put this under my pictures there, just put it right there, and I'm going to call this my icon.ico. Now it's important that you type .ico at the end of the filename. Click save and save again. Now let's close that and I'm going to put a shortcut to a program on my desktop, let's just create a shortcut to notepad. I'm going to send that to my desktop and from there I'm going to right click on this and go to the properties and I'll click the change icon button. And then I'm going to browse for a new icon, let's go to my pictures and there's my icon.ico, I'm going to select it, click OK and then down at the bottom here, I'm going to click OK on this box here. Now as you can see my notepad icon is now using my new icon. My name is Dave Andrews and I've just showed you how to create a desktop icon."
