"Hi, this is Bill Scher. Why is immigration important to America? Well, number one, America as we know it wouldn't exist without immigration because we almost all are immigrants and it shows how important it is for... for countries to grow and to flourish and to evolve, to allow people to go where there is opportunity, to deny people opportunity is to condemn people, many people not only to financial misery, but often to political oppression. So it's always been essential to the growth of America and the fulfillment of American ideals to embrace immigrants and give them a chance to flourish here. At the same time, we should also recognize that it's not a healthy situation to have extended misery across the globe, particularly in our own hemisphere, it arguably is in America's interest to ensure that there are thriving economies in Central and South America, so people don't feel the have to abandon their families across the border just simply to survive. So some coordinated aid to lift up infrastructure in Mexico and other countries in the southern hemisphere with not only be a benefit to those countries but probably a benefit to the whole hemisphere region as well. But you wouldn't want to do that and prevent immigrants from coming to America who chose to be part of our great country and make sure that America continually grow."
