"Hi everybody I'm John Graden. I'm an NGH certified hypnotist trainer our of Clearwater Beach Florida in the Tampa Bay area. This segment is how is hypnosis done? We're going to talk about that but first, I think, it's important to define what hypnosis is and what it isn't. First off, hypnosis is a natural state. It's mostly associated with the word sleep. In fact, I believe hypnosis translates to sleep in Greek. However, I don't think that's really the best term. Here's the word I'd like you to associate with hypnosis, and that word is trance. Trance. To me, hypnosis is a way of controlling states of trance. Hypnosis is a method of bypassing the conscious mind to speak directly to the sub-conscious mind. Let me help you understand that. Imagine, just for illustration purposes, you have two minds. One's an outer mind, the conscious mind, and then we have the inner mind, the sub-conscious mind. The outer mind is where you make all your short term decisions. It's your logical mind, it's where you analyze things, it's where you rationalize things, it's where your willpower. Or in reality, lack of willpower exists. So the conscious mind helps me remember what my kids names are, where my keys are at least most of the time, how to get to work. So the conscious mind is the analytical mind. Beneath that is where the real power lies, in the sub-conscious mind. The vast majority of your life is spent controlled by the sub-conscious mind. Experts, studies have shown, that up to 88% of our day is spend in automatic behavior patterns. These are patterns of thought and behavior that we consciously think about that operated from on the sub-conscious mind. So hypnosis is a method of by-passing the conscious mind to speak directly to the sub-conscious mind. And in the world of hypnosis we call that by-passing the critical factor. The critical factor is the filter between the conscious mind and the sub-conscious mind. You can think of him, or it, as the bouncer at the club and anybody who's coming up to get into the club, and the club is the sub-conscious mind, is going to undergo some serious scrutiny. So, what we do as hypnotists, through the words that we use, the suggestions that we make is that we use hypnosis to by-pass the critical factor and speak directly to the sub-conscious mind. At that point our clients, our subjects, our friends that we're working with, have reached a heightened level of suggestibility that allows them to accept the suggestions as truth. I'm John Graden, that's the definition of hypnosis and how hypnosis is done. Thanks"
