"Hi, I'm Ashleigh Gass, strength and conditioning specialist with brilliantathlete.com. So just how do you increase your metabolism? Well, your metabolism really refers to how efficient your body is at using the calories that you put into it and the amount of muscle mass that you have. What people normally find is as they get older and they train less or they stop strength training is their metabolism slows down. So it literally feels like whatever food you're eating just grows onto your body and you start gaining body fat. However, when people are getting older and strength training properly, it feels like the food that you're eating is being used right away to fuel the growth of muscle tissues. So you'll probably know which category you're in. You're either someone that feels like the food that you're eating is going towards muscle recovery right away or you'll feel that the food that you're eating is just going straight to your stomach or your butt and it's staying there. So to increase your metabolism, what you've got to do is a couple of things for sure, but the top two is learn how to strength train. And you can do this at home with a good home strength training program or you can certainly work with a trainer in a gym or trainer via distance because you've got to increase muscle mass. Muscle mass makes metabolism a lot more efficient. The second part, and this is really just as important as strength training, is you've got to clean up your diet. If you're living off of packaged, processed foods or foods that would still be edible when...two years from the day that you buy them, it's important to eliminate those foods and replace them with fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and lean proteins, and, of course, healthy carbohydrates. And when you'll find when you take the angle of strength training and cleaning up your diet, your metabolism will start to increase. For a great nutritional system, you can go to brilliantathlete.com and check out precision nutrition. That guide is really the best guide out there for teaching you all of these different habits. Thanks. I'm Ashleigh Gass."
